Cohort A: Neonatal resuscitation: Wally Carlo (global efforts to minimize asphyxia), Moisés Quiles-Corona (presentations in Mexico, Chile, El Salvadore, the Dominican Republican, and Zambia), and Ola Didrik Saugstad (global educational efforts; renowned for findings that room air is adequate for most infants needing resuscitation at birth).
Talks A, B, and C 30 min each; followed by discussion and demonstrations.
Cohort B: Ethics of Neonatal Care
Key talks by Roya Huseynova (Saudi Arabia), Lynn Bush (online-Harvard), Mark Mercurio (online-Yale): 30 min each; followed by discussion. The board will include Fauzia Khan, Bhavesh Shah, Melvin Hardy, Md. Mozibur Rahman, Amit Upadhyay, Sherri Buddington, Marisa Nimrod, and others; a large number of experts was needed as many of our globally-renowned leaders remain uncertain about their ability to join in person - there are competing academic commitments all over the world. The discussion will be extensive, and go beyond the traditional emphasis on continued management of infants with dismal prognosis. Based on your feedback, we need discussions on religious sensitivities. Educational fears, including about appropriate use of artificial intelligence need attention. There is a need to monitor social inclusion of certain racial and native communities even in cosmopolitan areas. Social inclusiveness of families with same-gender parents, on legal equality, social acceptance, and medical practices, needs attention. Parents facing dire financial challenges will benefit from economic inclusion. Infants born in illegal immigrant families in border areas require attention. Lastly, how do we promote medical inclusion of infants born to parents suffering from substance dependence?
Cohort C: Neonatal Hematology
Christof Dame (Berlin, Germany) and Rachana Singh (Tufts, Boston; RBCs); Akhil Maheshwari (Leukocytes), Brunetta Guaragni (Fresh-Frozen Plasma and Recombinant fVII; and Platelet Function as measured by Thromboelastography): 30 min each; followed by discussions
Cohort D: Neonatal Nutrition
Talks: Naveed Hussain (US; Policy, Equity, and Programmatic Strategies to Close the Neonatal Nutrition Gap); Muralidhar Premkumar (US) and Noorina Joosub (Mauritius; Innovations in Parenteral Nutrition for Low-Resource Settings); Pradeep Alur (US, Nutrition Surveillance and Growth Monitoring in the First 28 Days); Sushma Nangia (India; Early Total Enteral Feeding in preterm neonates): 30 min each; then discussion.
